You Can Make History: What Shall I Wear Today?

In this highly interactive and engaging program, students are introduced to the concepts of history by Arbuckle, a 200-year-old turtle puppet. In What Shall I Wear Today, students will learn about clothes on the Ohio frontier. Students will examine how children their own age dressed in the past, sources of material, and methods of production. By comparing and contrasting their lives today with that of early American settlers, students will build a foundation of understanding for history and how things change over time.

Program Details


1. The program begins with a participatory song.
2. Students discuss the passage of time.
3. Students compare and contrast their own lives with that of early settlers.
4. Students have ample time for questions and answers.


After participating in this program, students will be able to compare and contrast their clothing with that of the early settlers. Students will also have a better understanding of how we can learn about history and record our own activities. Students will explore the clothing of early settlers and the various methods to make that clothing, along with the supplies available to make clothing.
